In a recent Street Fighter V upload, James Chen of UltraChen TV discusses the unusually long period of time he noticed passing between his 720 directional input and the pressing of a button that still allowed Zangief to throw out his Critical Art. Understandably confused (and possibly frustrated), James decided to sit down and see exactly what was going on and just how long he could wait between the motion and the button press to get the same results.
It turns out that there’s enough of a delay for the Red Cyclone to fill that gap between inputs with a few steps forward. This means that he can do something like, say, buffer a 720 while performing a standing fierce, step into range if the attack is block, press a second button, and dole out some devastating damage to his opponent.
Okay, so, alone, this is pretty sick, but James happened to be streaming when he discovered this technique, and some clever viewers asked if he could, instead of using a button press, perform the Critical Art through negative edging.
He could.
This means there are all sorts of new circumstances in which Zangief players can surreptitiously suplex their opponents. Forget protecting the Russian skies; the ground may never be safe again.
